Gary Clarke thanks Electric Mobility for generous donation of Manual Wheelchair

Electric Mobility are delighted to support Gary by donating a Minos Wheelchair in recognition of his remarkable achievements. Jonathan Hearth expresses: “ It’s an absolute pleasure to provide a helping hand to Gary who is an inspiration to us, we wish him all the best for future competitions.” Gary plans to use the Minos wheelchair for his
next event in August, and because of the chair’s good sturdy build, customised adatpions can be fabricated to make weight lifting easier and more secure.
Gary explains the adaptions he will make: “I am having stabilisers fitted to the back and a table to the front with a comfortable and safe tilting position for when I transfer or carry Atlas Stones, since this is the signature event for World’s Strongest Man it involves a lot of concentration, hard work and it’s very challenging. I am very grateful for the chair, every bit of sponsorship helps me to continue my training”
Gary has recently returned from Iceland where he participated in the World’s Strongest Disabled Man Competition for the fifth time. Gary was extremely pleased that British Strongman, Lee Small won the title this season and claims: ‘his efforts to bring together 3 other British athletes to join him in Iceland have been a huge success and it’s a nice way to introduce new connections to the sport.”
38 year old Gary Clarke from Somerset, who has Cerebral Palsy, smashed his personal best score of 37 seconds and 90kg in the Hercules Hold event, which tests both strength and grip.
Gary states: “It was good to see my good friend and rival Magnús Ver Magnússon again, four-times Winner of ‘the World’s Strongest Man’ competition. He has agreed to come over to England to referee the ‘Britain’s World Strongest Disabled Man’ event on 29 August at the Northwood Stadium in Stoke-on-Trent. I am organising this event and I am extremely proud to be competing in the ‘British Championships’ for the first time.”
In April 2015 Gary took his experiences to a new level when he flew over to Columbus, Ohio to watch the North America’s Strongest Disabled Man Competition where there he asked one of the American contenders,Tommy Ahn if he would come over as a guest to compete in his August event as a return gesture. Tommy is very happy to show his support and with such an excellent contender lineup this event is sure to be a promising outcome.
Sponsored by disabled wetroom specialists, Impey Showers, Gary, who works as a carer for disabled people, promotes the sport through displays and performances of his strongman
capabilities of his key strength exercises, the Atlas Stones and
Crucifix Hold across the UK. When asked, what advice he would give others who want to embark on a new journey like himself, to compete in World’s Strongest Disabled Man? Gary answers: “I would encourage them to try it! It’s a fantastic
opportunity to step out of your comfort zone and get fit and find out to see what you are capable of achieving.”

If you would like to see disabled athletes in action, join us on 29th August at Northwood Stadium in Stoke for Britain's Strongest Disabled Man, this event is the brainchild of Gary Clarke, please help us to fill the stadium at this 'free to attend' event.
